Gambling Commission oversees Porter investigation | Globalnews.ca

Ontario’s Alcohol and Gambling Commission says it is closely monitoring an investigation into Toronto Raptors backup center Jontay Porter.

The NBA confirmed Monday that it is investigating Porter after betting irregularities surrounding his performances in two recent Raptors games.

Ontario is currently the only province where registered private operators can offer online sports betting.

AGCO is responsible for regulating betting in the province, including protecting against odds manipulation, match fixing and other sports betting integrity issues.

A spokesperson says AGCO is currently working with all relevant parties to the Porter investigation, including registered gaming operators, independent integrity monitors and the Ontario Provincial Police.

Because Canada’s Criminal Code prohibits gambling or betting fraud with the intent to defraud, provincial police will determine whether a criminal investigation is warranted.
