Vontae Davis: Former NFL player found dead in Florida villa aged 35

Former NFL star Vontae Davis has died at the age of 35, according to police.

Officers were called to the football player Florida Villa on Monday morning after a housekeeper discovered his body.

Details of Davis’ death have not been released, but preliminary information suggests “no foul play is involved.”

Broward County property records suggest the nearly $3 million (£2.4 million) home belongs to Adaline Davis, believed to be his grandmother, Sky News’ US partner NBC reported.

Other records indicate that Davis lived in the house.

Davis played in 10 NFL seasons for multiple teams, including the Miami Dolphins (2009-11), Indianapolis Colts (2012-17) and Buffalo Bills (2018).

With the Colts, he was named to the Pro Bowl – the NFL’s all-star game – in two consecutive years in 2014 and 2015.

In 2018, Davis shocked fans when he quit midway through the game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In a statement at the time, he said: “This is not how I envisioned my retirement from the NFL. But today, on the field, reality hit me hard and fast.”

“I shouldn’t be out there anymore… I meant no disrespect to my teammates or coaches.”
